Description
The School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) in the Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma seeks candidates for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in the area of energy. This position is part of a larger initiative defined in the Gallogly College of Engineering strategic plan for growing student enrollment and strengthening the research cluster on energycluster which focuses on energy generation, supply, transmission, and utilization with minimal environmental impact through collaborative and innovative research and technology development. Candidates seeking to work in a rapidly-growing School and College, in collegial interdisciplinary groups, and towards the mission of student success, are encouraged to apply.
The first position is in the area of energy controls.Candidates are sought with a strong technical background and research experience in at least one of the following areas:
Modeling and control of energy systems across various applications, including thermal management and energy conversion processes such as building thermal loads and vapor compression systems
Optimization of energy system design with application of smart sensors and controls, integration of renewable energy sources and heat pumps
Application of artificial intelligence/machine learning for real-time sensing, analytics and control of energy systems
Grid planning and management for buildings, electric vehicles and integration of renewable energy sources
The second position is in the area of advanced energy systems. Candidates are sought with a strong technical background and research experience in at least one of the following areas:
Optimization of advanced energy conversion and storage systems (e.g., electrochemical energy systems).
Development of digital twins and AI-enabled tools for monitoring and predictive control of energy systems.
Integration of hybrid and low-carbon energy systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and grid resilience.
Successful candidates will develop a nationally recognized research program, collaborate with researchers in the energy cluster, and have a demonstrated commitment to excellent and innovative instruction, and effective mentorship and guidance of students.
Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in aerospace or mechanical engineering or in a related field.

Candidates are invited to submit (1) a cover letter; (2) a research statement describing the proposed research themes, funding avenues to be explored, and plans for mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students; (3) a curriculum vitae; (4) copies of three research publications; and (5) a list of at least three references. Candidates may address their approach to teaching, their teaching experiences and their efforts to support success of undergraduate students in the cover letter.
Review of candidates will begin on December 15, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. The start date for the position is expected to be Fall 2026.
Department and Region: AME currently has 31 full-time faculty members and over 1000 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Currently, both AME and the Gallogly College of Engineering are experiencing strong growth in research, corporate and private donations, and student enrollment.
