- Naval Architect / Marine Engineer

Hockema Group is currently seeking an experienced engineer in the field of naval architecture and marine engineering for full time employment in an Associate or potentially Principal Engineer level position, commensurate with experience. The candidate will preferably have significant project management experience. A solid background in naval architecture and/or marine engineering is required.
Hockema Group is an independent small business Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm founded in 1997 and based in Seattle, Washington. We provide consulting and engineering services to the marine industry, delivering exceptional service to our clients. However, while it is primarily a telecommuting position, we do maintain office space in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle and residence in Puget Sound is preferred for access to our primary customer base. This position will be a combination of work from home and/or working from the Ballard office space. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage projects involving the design and engineering of various vessels, ensuring they meet industry standards and client expectations.
- Provide technical expertise in naval architecture and/or marine engineering, including structural, mechanical, and electrical system design.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success.
- Oversee project management tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Serve as a mentor to junior engineers and participate in team development.

- Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office applications: Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Knowledge of the maritime regulatory environment, shipyard practices, contract specifications, shipboard systems

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Marine Mechanical or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Professional Engineer's (PE) License is required.
- A solid background in vessel design, ship structures, stability, and/or mechanical systems. Minimum 5 years of experience in position(s) within the commercial marine industry in a naval architecture related engineering role.
- Experience with US Coast Guard and class society regulations and commercial vessel requirements.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong project management experience, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- Residence in the Puget Sound region of Washington State.
- Background working with tugs, barges, dredges, commercial fishing vessels and/or other types of industrial commercial and government vessels.
