Description

The naval architect will take part in project management, production, sales, distribution, software development and support of leading-edge products for ship and offshore floating structures. Software focuses on floating stability, strength, load management, salvage engineering, and intact and damage stability assessments. The naval architect will have the opportunity to work at a small company with other professionals that work closely together, enjoy their work, and produce quality products for the maritime and offshore industries.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record and a BS degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering or Ocean Engineering.

Job Requirements:

  • Up to five years experience overall; experience working with ship stability and strength is a plus
  • Interest in traveling for software support, training and installations, including offshore mobilization and international travel
  • Must work well with people and possess good oral and written communications skills
  • Good organizational skills (will be working many projects simultaneously)
  • Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Strong work ethics and dedication
  • General interest in programming and software

Responsibilities:

  • Project management of loading and stability software production
  • Travel for software support and installations
  • Interface with clients on software projects
  • Perform calculations applying naval architecture principles and applicable regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or other applicable discipline
  • 0-5 years of professional engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some familiarity in programming languages (VBA, VB.NET, C#.NET and/or Python) is a plus
  • Familiarity with HECSALV is a plus.
  • Experience with USCG and ABS regulations is a plus.
  • Must have a US Citizenship (due to US Government work falling under ITAR restrictions)

This is a remote work position, and candidate must have an appropriate remote working space. This position does have a strong focus on the oil & gas industry in the US Gulf coast, so the ideal candidate would be located in the Houston area or along the Gulf Coast. Herbert-ABS is open to the option of re-opening a Houston office location for the right candidate, with room for future hires located there. This position will require regular travel for software support, training and installations, as well as potential marketing trips. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work both independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
